Our goal

We want TowChief to work for everyone who uses it — dispatchers, drivers and the people waiting on the side of the road. We build and test against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is our target, and we treat it as ongoing work rather than a finish line. We do not claim TowChief is fully compliant with any law or standard.

What we've built in

  • You can use every screen with a keyboard, and the focus outline is always visible.
  • A "skip to main content" link is the first thing on every page.
  • Each page has one main heading and its own page title.
  • Colors are checked for contrast: at least 4.5 to 1 for text and 3 to 1 for buttons and controls, in the standard and high-contrast displays.
  • A high-contrast option is available from the top of every page.
  • Buttons and tap areas in the driver app are at least 48 by 48 pixels.
  • Screens work in portrait or landscape. We never lock the rotation.
  • Status messages are announced to screen readers.
  • Where we show a map or a route, we also give the same information in words.
  • We write in plain language, aiming for a sixth to eighth grade reading level.
  • Nothing depends on drag and drop. There is always a button or menu that does the same job.
  • If you turn on reduced motion, we turn off animations.

Known limitations

  • Spanish is not available yet. All text is in English for now. Spanish is planned.
  • Photos uploaded by drivers do not have descriptions yet, so a screen reader can only say "before photo" or "after photo".
  • The signature box on the driver app needs a finger or a mouse. We are adding a typed name as a full alternative.
  • Some data tables are wide and need side-to-side scrolling on a small phone.
  • We have not finished testing with every screen reader and browser combination.
  • Printed and PDF invoices have not been checked for accessible tagging yet.

TowChief is software made by Beach Break Apps. It is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

Towing, storage, lien and abandoned-vehicle rules differ by state, county and city and change often. Each towing company is responsible for following its own federal, state and local laws.

Deadlines, fees, reminders, notices and forms in TowChief come only from what each company enters. TowChief does not check them, and they may not be complete or current.
